A 28-year-old man from Uttarakhand has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman friend from West Bengal’s Darjeeling for a week, thrashing, and torturing her by “pouring hot dal (lentils)” on her, police said.
The accused, identified as Paras who worked as a cook at an eatery, has been booked for rape, sodomy, and causing hurt. He was arrested on 2 February, cops added.
Became friends on phone
The incident came to light on 30 January. As per the cops, the woman, and the accused came in contact over the phone. They were in contact for about 3-4 months.
The victim was supposed to reach Bengaluru in the first week of January where she got a job of a house maid. She had a train via Delhi, therefore, she decided to take a halt and meet Paras. When the two met in Delhi, Paras asked her to stay back, assuring to help her find a job. On his assurance, the victim stayed with him around a month in a rented accommodation in Raju Park in south Delhi’s Neb Sarai area, the investigating officer said
Woman sexually assaulted for a week
However, as the days passed, Paras allegedly started beating her up and even sexually assaulted her for a week, the victim told the officer.
At one instance, he even allegedly “poured hot dal over her” due to which she suffered burn injuries, the cop added.
The police said, the Neb Sarai police station received a PCR call on 30 January informing that a woman was being beaten by her husband. When the cops reached the spot, they rescued the woman and rushed her to AIIMS, New Delhi.
Woman had 20 injury marks
The woman had around 20 injury marks on her body when she was hospitalised. She was recently discharged, police informed.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the police registered an FIR under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (rape) and 377 (sodomy) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused on 2 February.
Further probe in the matter is underway, police added.
