Congress leader Randeep Surjewala accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of "misleading" Parliament and the people of the country about three new bills introduced in the Lok Sabha that seek to overhaul the country's criminal justice system, and demanded broader consultations with legal experts and the public on the proposed legislations.

Surjewala alleged that the Modi administration introduced the three legislation from its "black magic hat" on August 11 without any previous notification, public engagement, or requesting ideas from legal experts, jurists, criminologists, and other stakeholders.

Police officers searched automobiles as security was increased around the nation's capital in preparation for the July 4th celebrations.

India, China to hold 19th Corps Commander talks today

According to army officials, India and China will convene the 19th round of Corps Commander discussions on 14 August in Chushul as part of ongoing efforts to settle the situation in eastern Ladakh. The talks take place less than a month before the G20 leaders conference, which Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend in person.

“The Indian stance has been consistent, i.e. restoration of status quo ante as on April 2020 and the focus would be on disengagement from Depsang and Demchok. The above entails the restoration of patrolling rights till the traditional patrolling points,” according to a defence source.

This discussion comes less than a month before the G20 leaders summit, which Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to attend in person.

The eighteenth round of Corps Commander discussions took held on the Chinese side on April 23, immediately prior to the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Defence Ministers conference.
