India reports 38,617 COVID-19 cases taking total over 89 lakh; recovery rate at 93.52%

New Delhi: India's COVID-19 caseload went past 89 lakh, while the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 83 lakh, said the Union health ministry on Wednesday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 89,12,907 with 38,617 infections being reported in a day while the toll climbed to 1,30,993 with 474 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The number of active cases remained below five lakh for the eighth consecutive day. There are 4,46,805 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 5.01 percent of the total caseload, the data stated.

With 83,35,109 patients being cured, the national recovery rate climbed to 93.52 percent while the COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.47 percent.

India's COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on 7 August, 30 lakh on 23 August and 40 lakh on 5 September. It went past 50 lakh on 16 September, 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October and crossed 80 lakh on 29 October.

According to the ICMR, acumulative total of 12,74,80,186 samples have been tested up to 17 November. At least 9,37,279
samples were tested on Tuesday alone.
